Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Festival 2011

I join Aklanons in welcoming tourists and visitors to the 799th Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Festival Dubbed as the "Mother of all Philippine Festivals"on January 10-16, 2011. Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Festival is an annual week-long celebration in honor of the town’s Patron Saint, Sto. Niño, which culminates on the 3rd Sunday of January. It is a jubilating, titillating, stimulating, riotous and frenetic aboriginal street dancing to the ancient rhythm of drum beats along the designated areas around the municipality, participated in by the different tribes and groups of the local people and don or color themselves with soot or colorful paint in their full battle regalia or uniforms as they go out and dance to the wee hours of the day.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Higante Contest & Aklan Festivals Parade slated on January 13, 2011, Thurdsday with this year’s theme “Fantasy Characters & Tales”. It is a look at the ingenuity and artistry of LGUs by way of dressing up their Higantes in colorful costumes, headdresses and props. The event will commence with a street parade of the Higante entries from D. Maagma St. at 1:00 P.M. followed by a program at the Pastrana Park at 3:00 P.M. where awarding and announcement of winners will be done after the program.

See you there!
